Cleaning hardwood floors after pulling up carpet

The hardwood floors in my house have been covered with carpet for 19-40 years, depending on the room. I am finally getting going on pulling up all this old disgusting carpet. I suspect that there are going to be dark pet stains in places, and I'm going to try the hydrogen peroxide method on a small part of one of these.

I am planning to sell my house within the next year, and my plan is to move first, then have the floors done when the house is empty. This way I don't have to worry about keeping cats out of the living room for 2 days and foul toxic odors for a week. But I will want the floors to be at least passable while I live here.

The padding under the carpet is pretty much pulverized. I will be vacuuming up the loose pieces, but I need to know what to give the floor a really good cleaning with before putting some kind of polish on them. The house is a suburban NJ cape from the 1950s, the floor is some kind of oak, I'm pretty sure. I'm also sure that there has been no wax or finish on these floors since the carpet was put down. In one room I replaced the carpet when I moved in 19 years ago and I know that there is a long deep scratch down the middle and some pet stains. The other rooms are anyone's guess.

Can anyone help me with how to proceed and what products to use? I've heard good things about Bona products but never used them. Thanks.
