I am plumbing type L copper for compressed air. I soldered a few connections, no problem. Then I had to solder a 1/2 male pipe thread adapter to a street 45 up next to the ICF wall. The two fittings are not as tight as others. To not melt the EPS insulation I made a shield of aluminum foil.
Prepared with sandpaper, wire brush and flux as usual, but the solder just crumbled. So I let cool, prepped again and repeated, same result. Cleaned with acetone, prepped again, still could not sweat it.
Could it be gasses from the EPS or aluminum foil? Could it be that is a windy day? The loose fit of the two fittings?
