Low voltage transformer placement

Hi,

I will soon be mounting a new transformer for some landscape lighting - from the attached picture, I would like to mount just inside the fence so that it can't be seen from the front yard. The transformer comes with a 5 1/2 foot cord, so perhaps I could bury the cord a few inches down and have it come up on the side of the house so that I could plug into a GFI outlet. If I were to do this, should I enclose the cord in conduit underground and up the side of the house? Thanks
