Hi everyone!
I am a total beginner, but I need to bring an old deck back to life, along with choosing a great stain (2 tone with solid and a semi-trans) and matching a new fence that runs into the existing deck.
First, here is what I am working with:
My questions:
1. I am planning to buy a electric power washer (also will need it to clean multiple fences around the property, so buying will be better than renting 3-4 times). Will a Ryobi 1700-PSI 1.2-GPM do just fine for stripping/cleaning the deck and cleaning an old fence?
2. Should I strip the hand rails and vertical posts if I plan on applying a solid white stain on this part? Or will just cleaning it and applying a solid stain over the current semi-trans be OK? Want to do it correctly, but not sure if stripping here would be worth it as it seems like a massive part of the job.
3. Any recommendations on matching the new fence that runs into the deck - should I match the stain I apply on the horizontal boards, match the solid stain on the hand rails and vertical posts or just apply a clear stain? I am not sure I want to go solid on the new fence, but wondering if it would look out of place where it butts up to a solid white railing around the porch.
