My framing/electrical inspector said that the insulated foil "squares" were not code anymore for sealing off the return air ducts in the ceiling. He said to use wood or metal. So I cut some 3/4" plywood to size and put those in place of the foil insulation caps.
My question is what can I use to seal the little gaps between this new wood and the sheet metal for the duct? Can I use the gap filler foam, foil tape, caulk or something different? Didn't know if there was something special I had to use for this since it involved air quality. Also, if I can use the Fireblock foam, that would be great as I already have a can open.
Hope all that makes sense.
Thanks for the help!
