My wife really loves Joss & Main furniture, and as I was browsing through their coffee tables, I found the following piece:
I thought that it was not only beautiful, but it also looked really doable as a DIY project. Considering the price tag, there might even be some significant financial incentive to recreate it myself rather than buying it pre-made. I haven't done a lot of carpentry before so I might be wrong.
The one major hang up I see is that I have no idea how I would get the iron straps that make up the frame that holds the whole thing together. I've looked everywhere online, and I can't find anyone that just does this kind of thing, and yet there is a preponderance of rustic furniture that uses iron straps just like this, that clearly there must be suppliers for it. If you look at the picture below, it actually looks like straight pieces of metal welded together rather than bended straps:
So what would you recommend for recreating this look? Should I find a small machine shop to see if they can do the metal bits? Is it worth it to get the raw materials and learn to do this myself? Where would I get said materials? I'm open to all suggestions.
I'm in Fairfax county Virginia.
Thank you.
