Hi folks. I'm new to this forum.
I'm trying to build an adjustable, articulating ceiling light that will sit above my desk. Something like this: http://ift.tt/1ETK1pD
My challenge is finding the swivel hardware that connects the light to the ceiling. I purchased a variety of swivel parts from a lighting parts supplier, but they are made for small lamps and cracked when tightened.
I then bought a shower head and stripped out the ball and socket part. It worked better, but I still can't tighten it enough without the socket cracking. an industrial strength ball and socket like the shower head would be perfect. I just can't find anything like that. McMaster-Carr is my go-to site for unusual items but I couldn't find anything there either.
BTW, I tracked down the French company that manufactures the above light. They sent me to their U.S. distributor who charges over $1,000 per fixture. I really just need the ceiling hardware, which isn't sold separately. I have already constructed several models, one with metal rods, another with walnut arms and electrical parts from a $20 Home Depot desk lamp. I could certainly finish this project with a fixed connector, but I really like the flexibility of the swivel for my particular use.
Thanks for any ideas.
