Ceiling Cove Moldings

Last year around January I installed ceiling cove moldings in all the rooms in my house and the results were very good. However this winter I noticed a gap between most of the joints (approx. 1/8”). I guess it must be because of shrinking but I wonder why. For the installation of all moldings I applied caulking at the top / bottom of each piece (to seal the edges) and then used an air gun with 1-1/4” nails to secure the top / bottom edges to the walls / ceiling.



What is the best way to fill in the gaps? Caulking or something else?
