Kinetico Brine Valve Question

Hopefully, this subject hasn't been beat to death. If so, sorry, I'm new here.

I just bought a used model 2030S. It appears to be about 10 years old. This is probably my 5th Kinetico softener over a 30 year period. (Only because I've moved around quite a bit).

I decided to put the unit into service without a dealer's help. Now that I have it

running, I'm a little confused about the operation of the brine valve. It does not appear to allow the brine to reach the level that would be dictated by the height of the float cup.

The previous installation has the "adjuster tube setting" tabs cut down to setting "E". The float height is set to the lowest mark, "1".

I haven't done a water test yet, but given the current settings, I'm trying to figure out if this contraption works correctly. I will set the final cup height and tabs and proper disk, once I have done an iron and hardness test.

The adjuster tube appears to act as a float??? The reason I ask is that when I place the valve into the brine solution, even though the level is not high enough to raise the float cup, the brine valve closes prematurely, as if the Adjuster Tube is raising the valve to the closed position.

I removed the valve and placed it into a container of water. When I start a rinse, it appears to draw water out of the container, and appears to shut off the flow of air into the unit when the water drains down. However, when the unit tries to fill the container, as soon as the water reaches the adjuster tube, the valve raises and shuts off. This happens regardless of how high I move the float cup. Is this correct?

Please educate me. To me, the operation of this valve is not obvious at all. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.
