We recently moved into a home (electrically heated, gas fireplace) with an electrical base board heated 3-season (?) room at the and of the house. There are floor to ceiling (20 foot height) Pella windows on 3 sides and 4 skylights. We've not used this room to date because of the exhorbitant cost to heat it. We're considering installing a wood burning stove, but running a stove pipe is going to be challenging due to the layout of the room, windows, doors, etc.
Is it feasible/safe/advisable to remove the glass from one of the skylights, cap it off with 3/8" to 1/2" aluminum plate and run the stove pipe through the skylight's boxed aluminum frame? We've used and personally installed wood burners over the last 30 years, but haven't come across this level of challenge before. Your comments are welcome.
Thank you in advance for your responses.
