Air Condenser Shutting Down

When I first turn on my ac, the condenser outside turns on and is working fine for awhile. After it goes on and off a few times as the ac maintains the temperature, the air condenser will start to turn on for a second and then shuts off. If I turn the ac to off, wait about 5 min, then turn it on again, it starts up fine that first time. Any ideas?
