I need help!! Making 2 plywood cornice boards for master bedroom windows. Windows measure 56"L to window sill. Width of windows 35" includes window frames. With shears under cornices to floor. Ceiling height from 3" ceiling molding to top of window frame, 9"L. Would like to hang cornice 3" above window frame, leaving approx. 6" exposed between top of cornice & ceiling molding. I made the width 47" and the returns 5 1/2". The bottom edges left & right have a design that is 10"W leaving 17"L in the center. Now looking at the cornice board it looks so oversized. Don't want to make the 2nd one until I'm sure. My room is 16' x 17"6". Between the two windows is a 77" tall high-boy bureau.
If this cornice is too big, and there is labor & supplies in it now, the only thing I can think of doing would be to take away the bottom design by cutting it straight across. This would make it 17"L all the way across. However, would this cornice board then be too tailored looking? My fabric is a chintz floral to match the bed quilt/dust ruffle, and the bottom piping will be a solid color.
Size of cornice boards???
