We are having a house built. I have a 10,000W generator that I will be installing along with an automatic transfer switch. Our previous house I installed a manual transfer switch for a 5500W generator, so I am reasonably familiar with how they are wired That transfer switch I separately extended each circuit I wanted into the transfer switch. I am wondering if I were to have the builder put the critical circuits in a sub that sits next to the main panel, could I then just extend the feed for the sub out to the transfer switch, instead of each individual circuit? It would make the sub a lot neater, since I don't have nearly as many wires in it, and it would mean fewer cables running through the conduit. Of course it would keep the main panel a lot neater as well.
