The upstairs is all carpet, and I'm replacing it. After I remove the old carpet, I want to screw the subfloor down to the joists to eliminate squeaks and places where the subfloor thuds against the joist. In some places, nails holding down the subfloor have worked loose and poked through the carpet, so I will remove those. In general, is there any issue with screwing the subfloor down? Is this the best way to permanently eliminate the squeaks?
