Oxyclean Sucks

Just wanted to post and complain about Oxyclean and how their claims are false. My daughter was playing in the yard for 15 minutes and got grass stains and dirt on her pant knees. I immediately sprayed the pants with Oxyclean pretreater, worked it into the fabric, and let the pants sit for 10 minutes. Then I immediately washed them with Oxyclean detergent in hot water. Most of the dirt came out, but the grass stains did not. Funny how the back of the bottle says it will remove grass stains, blood, wine, oil, etc. Bunch of BS!

Service feed mess in an old house

Well, I bought a 100+ year old fixer-upper. I knew it was going to be a complete rewire coming in. I was told that my wife's uncle was a retired electrician... turns out he's retired, and for 2 years in the 60's he did some electrical work. So I'm doing the best I can and I think doing a good job, but I've run into some major issues on the service.

I have 200A that goes to a pole in the yard. It has a disconnect on the pole and it's buried to the house (there's a circuit off the pole going to the lights at the end of the driveway, but lets ignore that for now, unless it's found to be relevant later). The aluminum wire enters the house into a box and ends. It's spliced using a split nut to the wires that feed a 100A (I think, going off memory here) panel in the garage, that has a 60A(I think) sub panel going to the pole barn.
Immediately after that splice, is an extension into the main on the panel for the house. That was about 3 feet, I replaced the old panel and extended it about 20 feet away as it was directly above the sump pump.
There was another splice in the wires feeding the main panel that run upstairs to a 60A sub panel. It was old cloth wiring, and I did not reconnect it when I moved and installed the new panel this weekend. However, I would like to have it running the power upstairs (3 bedrooms, 1 bath).

I know that sounds all sorts of messed up, and I would obviously like to correct it. Here's a quick sketch to help clear some of that up. I appreciate any help you can provide, even if it's "call a real electrician".

120 volt walk way fixtures

Hi All, I will be installing 7 walk way fixtures each mounted on a Bell box with 1/2" PVC stubbed up from underneath,I am looking for thoughts on the best way to anchor these pipes to keep the fixtures straight,I am thinking about pouring concrete around the pipes.

mounting hand-held shower head bracket.

My new master bath has a nice shower stall with a regular "rain" style shower head overhead and also a separate hand-held head, with a diverter valve managing the two. they will not be on at the same time. the hand-held has a bracket that mounts to the stall wall (just a bracket -- not the adjustable bar type). I want to hang the bracket adjacent to the line out on the wall, and high enough to serve as a regular head when its set in place in the bracket. but I'm a bit nervous about the bracket mounting -- its just two screws and plastic anchors and has to be screwed through tile. any tips, advice? I'm just afraid the bracket will not hold up with continued use -- particularly from my two daughters!

previously painted deck, repaint or stain?

My deck (350 sqft, not counting staircase) was painted red by previous owner, and now paint started to peel off. I'm thinking treating it this season, but was very hesitant to DIY because most of the advise I got, no matter repaint or stain involves a deep sanding off the existing paint, which sounds like a very exhausting thing to do.

I don't have any exterior painting experience except repainting rusty stair railings. Can you guys give me some suggestions on what exactly I should do, and what type of tools/equipment I need to rent/buy (for example, I know HD can rent out sander, but I don't what type I should get).

Thanks so much.

Type of contractor needed to connect my DSL demarcation point to a phone jack?

Hi guys,

Hopefully this is the right forum to be asking this.

We just moved to a new Canadian town, and we're trying to get our DSL Internet set up (dry loop).

I was able to confirm that the DSL works by plugging my modem directly into the demarcation point (pictured here). But now we need to connect the demarcation point to one of our phone jacks. Basically, the DSL line needs to be connect to at least one of our phone jacks.

Strangely, our ISP (Teksavvy) is telling me that they can't do this for us since it's "private property' matter (lol what?).

I don't know what kind of contractor is needed to hire to get this done. I've called several Electricians in our area, and none of them offer this kind of service. Even my ISP (Teksavvy) doesn't seem to know what contractor I need to contact to run a DSL line through our house.

Any thoughts? Better yet, is it possible to do DIY this sort of thing? I've been without Internet for several days, and it's starting to drive me nuts!

5 hp Briggs hoizontal carbs.

I have several old carbs. with a steel pin near the adjusting screw. On the newer carbs this pin goes into the gas tank. Is this pin for anti-corrosion or what?
