Twinwall Polycarbonate roofing sheets

Hey all,

We are concidering the variouse roofing options, and we are currently concidering the polycarbonate twin wall roofing sheets and i noticed they come in a variety of thickness eg 6mm, 8mm, 10mm etc

Now the smaller you go obviously the cheaper it becomes, so i want to know if people here have used it and which one i should go for as the price also varies with size, so i want to get the the right one and as i know how strong these sheets are i dont want to pay extra for the 10mm if it wont end up making a diffrence, so i am hoping people here have exprience using them and can shed some light on their performance etc

Also with the the connectors and end caps is there a big diffrence between the polycarbonate ones and the aluminium ones? is there cheaper alternatives in the instalation process, as here in OZ they charge $28AU for a 3m Aluminium H connecter and $22AU for the polycarbonate versions.

Has anyone had exprience with the solid polycarbonate sheets and how they perform over time?

just some information about the structure

Dimentions : 14ft x 28ft aprox, Gable roof 22.5 deg

Wind : 60 knots

Tempature : 41F Low 113F Hi

Wood Burning Stovepipe Installation Question

We recently moved into a home (electrically heated, gas fireplace) with an electrical base board heated 3-season (?) room at the and of the house. There are floor to ceiling (20 foot height) Pella windows on 3 sides and 4 skylights. We've not used this room to date because of the exhorbitant cost to heat it. We're considering installing a wood burning stove, but running a stove pipe is going to be challenging due to the layout of the room, windows, doors, etc.

Is it feasible/safe/advisable to remove the glass from one of the skylights, cap it off with 3/8" to 1/2" aluminum plate and run the stove pipe through the skylight's boxed aluminum frame? We've used and personally installed wood burners over the last 30 years, but haven't come across this level of challenge before. Your comments are welcome.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

cracks in drywall joints

I added an addition to our house about 10 years ago and ever since I've had problems with the ceiling and outer corner joints cracking. I put new drywall compound in the cracks and eventually they crack again. It's pretty unsightly to me. I almost want to cover the ceiling with wood panels or something just so I don't have to deal with it anymore!

Insulating Duct Pipe Between Basement Ceiling Joists

I apologize if posting in the wrong forum.

I pulled down my drop ceiling in my basement to insulate my rim joist and complete some electrical work. I have a register in the far corner of my house on the first flow that blows cold air for a good few minutes before warming up just before the furnace turns off. I would like to insulate this duct run since I have access to it. I do have one issue. I already tried insulating one run with a roll of duct wrap from Home Depot, with the foil backing. It was quite a task, fiberglass in the air and all of the flooring nails through the subfloor were catching really bad too. This section I would like to do is about 1 inch from the subfloor so I want to avoid fiberglass wrap.

Could I use Roxul Comfort Batt on both sides of the duct in between the joists? Once I pack in the Roxul what should I use to keep the Roxul from falling down over time (even if in there tight), insulation support rods 100pk from Home Depot? I also thought after packing in the Roxul and installing the rods I could staple up Reflectix Roll to close the two joists and keep the heat in?

The only other idea I had to avoid using fiberglass was cutting XPS boards the length of the joists, glue them in then cap off the bottom. I just didn't want to get my table saw out in the middle of our NE snow storms.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

debugging air in fuel line

I have a diesel water heater that has been acting up in mildly cold weather, ~40 F to 26 F. air seemed to increase in the line as the weather got colder which would cause the becketburner to reset. at first if I reset it then it would run off and on for a few hours. now it can only run for a minute, then I have to bleed the line again. The bleed spout is on the beckett burner a few feet down the line from the fuel filter. In that few feet there is 18 to 12 inches of rubber(?) pipe secured with flathead tightened pipe clamps between a metal pipe and the beckett. Does a leak in the pipe or fuel filter seal seem reasonable as the cause of the air or could it be more likely something within the beckett burner itself?

Old ready mix patching plaster

Hi,

I have half a gallon of ACE ready mix patching plaster that is about 2 years old and I need to use some now for a small repair job. But it has dried and become slightly hard. I can still mix it.

Can I add water to it and still use it? Or, wait until I can go and buy a new one?

Thank you.
