Questions regarding dumping Tankless Coil for alternative DHW

A relative of mine is having some DHW problems that I'm sure are related to the tankless coil on her boiler. The boiler is a Peerless (1987) and I suspect it is well over sized for the house. I suggested looking at going electric with a conventional 40 gallon tank/heater. The other options would be replace the coil or go indirect DHW. Her plumber is pushing the latter which is the most expensive option. He is also telling her shutting down an old boiler like that is asking for 'trouble' (but he'd be glad to sell her a new boiler...)

I've read in the forum that shutting an older boiler down for summer months can lead to weeping at the section nipples. If this occurs is the boiler trash or will they seal up again as the boiler is used? I imagine there are other things that might not take kindly to months of inactivity in the system. Alternatively, if the aquastat is changed to lower settings the boiler would then only run to keep itself warm. I would expect this to still drastically cut the oil burned compared to supplying DHW and avoids the possible shut down issues.

Good/Bad idea?
