I see conflicting opinions about shutting down a boiler for the summer months. I've got a New Yorker CLW-3-PT cast iron boiler. I dont use it for DHW anymore, installed a hybrid electric tank. Can I completely shut this down for the summer, or should I leave it running and adjust the aquastat settings? Here is the actual "Triple Aquastat" that is on there. I was thinkning keeping the LO all the way down, and set the diff to 25. So it would fire at 10deg below the LO setting, run until it hits LO+15, and then shut off. Would this be the most economical way to run it for the summer months when I'm not using it at all? Or can I safely shut it down? Thanks for any input!
Shut down boiler in summer or adjust Aquastat?
